May 2026. Our Perspective article, “Digital heart initiative: an ecosystem for digital discovery and precision medicine in cardiology,” has been published in National Science Review.

Conceptual framework of the digital heart ecosystem

The article outlines a digital heart ecosystem for connecting cardiovascular data, computational tools, discovery workflows, and clinical translation. It proposes four core micro-ecosystems: devices and data, digital tools, digital discovery and precision cardiology, and infrastructure and governance.

Together, these components create iterative flows between patient and device data, AI/ML/LLM-enabled modeling, mechanistic digital twins, hypothesis generation, clinical decision support, and the governance structures needed for reliable, privacy-preserving, and clinically accountable use. The Perspective argues that coordinated development of this ecosystem can help move cardiac digital twins from static, snapshot-based models toward longitudinal and agentic systems for precision cardiology.
